Only public high school in Tennessee offered a charter from the Cum Laude Society. CHS ranks in the Top 7 High Schools in Tennessee by U.S. News & World Report and Newsweek's America's Best High Schools. CHS is also recognized annually as a winner in the Washington Post's "High School Challenge." 2016 seniors have been awarded $28.7 million in scholarships. 22 seniors have signed to play college sports.
In 2016, 93 seniors are in the ACT 30 and Above Club. 4 CHS students were named National Merit Commended Scholars and 6 were named National Merit Scholars. 13 CHS students were named Commercial Appeal Academic All Stars and 2 were named Commercial Appeal Academic All Star Overall Winners. 63 students are members of the Cum Laude Society. 3 students were named US Presidential Scholar Candidates and 1 was the State of Tennessee Winner. CHS has the AP male and female scholar for the State of Tennessee.
