Students achieve math proficiency by solving real-world problems through conceptual instruction, the use of manipulatives, and the integration of technology
Teachers use the arts as a means for igniting students' interest in core subjects
Students' ability to analyze scientific content and think critically is expanded with the use of advanced science kits and special technology and through interactions with local scientists

To transfer into the Optional program, you must follow the Optional enrollment process. Non-Optional transfers use the General Choice Transfer process.
Application Requirements: For 2017-18 Optional Attendance - Score 60% or above in total reading and mathematics on Optional Schools admittance tests and the NWEA MAP test (3rd-5th grades); first grade applicants have satisfactory skills and behaviors and mastery in academic/support subjects on most recent report card; 2nd-5th grade applicants have no grade below a B for a semester or final average in academic subjects and satisfactory special subjects/conduct/attendance grades; all students should have satisfactory attendance.
