  • College-like culture, opportunities for every studentParent 07/31/2015
Boys schools are not the norm these days, but after seeing my children study there, among the wide variety of students, mentored by the faculty there, it truly is an exceptional experience for those who are willing to count the cost (financial, academic, accountability, high expectations). Not for everyone, MUS is significantly accommodating to all kinds of nerds, athletes, geeks, socially-minded, and artistic boys. The diversity is legit, much more than a popular racial benchmark. The school attracts families who are serious about their boys growing up, learning how to become self-sufficient, identify their priorities, organize their time. It's home to about 15% of each class qualifying for National Merit, but the average boy there is not a gifted student. Average boy there is, however, fairly disciplined while being pretty happy. The alumni overwhelmingly wax nostalgic mainly because maturity comes later to most. The teachers and coaches become iconic in the boys' lives. Real gift to Memphis and beyond.
  • A great schoolParent 02/06/2015
We have 3 sons who attend MUS. They have different personalities, different interests, and different learning styles. Despite their differences each boy has been positively challenged academically and athletically by their teachers and coaches. MUS is not a school for every boy as the academic standards are high and the schoolwork is difficult and time consuming. If students are willing to put in the work the rewards of an MUS education are hard to beat.
  • One of the best decisions we made as parentsParent 02/06/2015
Both of our sons attended MUS and I can say without reservation that sending them to this school was one of the best decisions we made as parents. Our boys are very different in terms of their academic interests, personalities, and extracurricular interests. MUS helped them both to thrive, both in and out of the classroom. They were able to form lasting friendships with faculty members, play two different varsity sports that did not require try-outs, and receive a stellar education which prepared them very well for college. In fact, one of our sons received several generous college scholarships that I do not think he would have received had he not attended MUS. The cost of this school was expensive for our family, but we have no regrets about sending our sons to MUS.
